Lessons from the project - next publication of the TRACKs project!

The textbook is supplemented by our next publication: Lessons learnt from case studies and recommendations for practice. We have included our own video coaching experiences as well as the reflections of teachers, educators and tutors from the ECEC area who were involved in our project. We hope this publication will make it easier for users to get started with the method in their kindergartens, nurseries or children clubs.

Enjoy reading!

Toolbox: Outlines for using videocoaching is ready!

We are happy to present you the main output of our project – Toolbox. Outlines for using video analysis and video coaching as a tool for professionalizing ECEC workforce and training future ECEC professionals.

The main goal of the project was to explore which aspects of daily practices contribute to children learning processes. We chose the method of video analysis and video coaching in order to ‘explicit the implicit thinking’ underlying the daily practices of professionals where dynamics of inclusion/exclusion are played out. We believe that this innovative and active learning method will deepen their own understanding of their individual daily practices as well as offering their team a strong methodology to strengthen a culture of reflection.

What this tool has to offer?

  • the framework that lies behind video analysis and video coaching, and
  • the key elements or basic principles of why and how to implement video analysis and video coaching.
  • three country perspectives, how all the partners translated these general frameworks and key elements according to their own context.

Enjoy the lecture and try it out in your work!

Working Paper 1 - Comparing ECEC across Italy, Poland and Belgium

The increasing diversity in cities and schools is a pan-European experience. Concurrently, the time of subsequent crises (global financial crisis, migration/refugee crisis) severely impact on the key institutions safeguarding the rights and needs of the EU citizens. This also concerns the youngest generation in the education system, especially in the light of recent data about the growing rates of child poverty in Europe. Nevertheless, the implications of welfare cuts and super-diversity that different shape and form across European countries. In that sense, local/national decisions and context remain pivotal for the Early Children Education and Care (ECEC) organization in a given state and it does not appear like ECEC is strongly rooted or reflexive of pan-European, communitarian agendas.

This report is a background report which presents the overview of the three national systems and provide the main and most important problems and challenges within the ECEC areas across the three countries.

TRACKs Concept Note

As stated in our TRACKs-project proposal, ECEC professionals are placed at centre of the stage, since they are the main actors of a real social inclusion and educational path. At the same time, they are also the key actors impacting the wellbeing and development of children through daily practice. By building on these evidence, the main goal of TRACKs project is to explore which aspects of daily practices contribute to reinforce - or rather to contrast - inequalities in children learning processes in order to analyse these by engaging with practitioners in reflective processes aimed at the improvement of their practices and therefore to the increase of overall quality of ECEC provisions. In order to reflect with ECEC professionals on their ‘qualitative interactions’ (explained in the text), we will employ innovative and active learning methods of video coaching.
